Invitation to Participate in the English Language Skills Diagnostic Exam (ELTA–UCR)

Dear English teachers working in preschool, first and second cycles, and secondary education (in all modalities),

Warm greetings.

We would like to share with you the official circular from the Ministry of Public Education regarding the administration of the ELTA–UCR Diagnostic Exam, intended for all teachers who teach the subject of English.

We warmly and sincerely invite you to participate in this process, which provides a valuable opportunity to learn about your current level of linguistic proficiency and to guide future professional development efforts. The exam is free of charge, conducted online, and can be completed from the comfort of your home or any location you find convenient.

We wish to reassure you that participation is completely voluntary, carries no employment-related consequences, and does not serve as a certification. Rather, it is a diagnostic exercise designed to support the continuous improvement of English teaching in our country.

Please also note that your results will remain confidential; they will not be shared by any means and will be sent directly to the email address you provide during registration.

Below are some important details to keep in mind:
• Testing dates: December 2–12, 2025, from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
• Skills assessed: reading comprehension, listening comprehension, written production, and oral production.
• Skills may be completed separately at different times within the established period.
• Technological requirements: a computer, functioning headphones and microphone, and an internet connection of at least 10 Mbps.
• The official link to access the exam is available in the attached circular.
• Additionally, you will receive an email directly from the University of Costa Rica with a link that will allow you to enter the test immediately.
